Along Hawai'i's Easternmost shores, the moments before sunrise are filled with a marvelous sense of anticipation and promise. This is a place where I've painted many pictures, and I'm always delighted with something I find here. The grays are particularly beautiful, and contrary to popular thinking, I believe may be the most lovely notes of color at times. This painting is my attempt to capture that anticipation and first moment, and was done en plein air over three mornings, with work in the studio afterwards.
