Erik at Fourteen
Oil on Belgian Linen, 20" x 16"
Children are grown and they’re gone before we realize what’s happened. It’s the oldest story in the book. The solution is that when they are on Spring Break, (and if they owe you some money), you corral them for an hour a day on the model stand and paint their portrait. Informal pose, plenty of breaks between sittings, and generally a nice energy. I can’t imagine missing this opportunity, yet it could so easily have been put off.
There is never a better time than now, and I hope to cajole the lad into another. A fine investment, especially the experience and the time together. In twenty years, he’ll say “Thanks, dad.”
